England V Ireland Legends Match

England v Ireland Legends

Friday, 16th March, at the Twickenham Stoop (KO 7.45pm)

On the evening of Friday 16th March the England v Ireland Legends Charity Match is being held at The Twickenham Stoop (www.englandirelandlegends.co.uk).  It is the eve of the Six Nations clash and with the teams playing for the Stuart Mangan Memorial Cup it should provide the perfect opener to the final weekend of the championship.  We had 11,000 there in 2010 and we’re hoping to fill the stadium this time around.

The game will see some of the big names of English and Irish rugby go head-to-head one more time with those involved including Martin Corry, Shane Byrne, Jason Robinson, Rob Henderson, Austin Healey, Richard Wallace, Jason Leonard and Mick Galway to name but a few.  See the flyer below for the full team squads.

The game is being played again to raise funds for those seriously injured playing the game we all enjoy so much.  The charities benefiting include the RFU Injured Players Foundation, the RPA Benevolent Fund and the IRFU Charitable Trust.  There are a number of great sponsors on board to cover the running costs so all funds raised go directly to the charities.

After the game there will be bands playing in the main bar and plenty of food and drinks to be had so come and make a night of it. Corporate hospitality is also available – drop me a line if you would like details.

Let me explain the background: The game was conceived to raise money for Stuart Mangan, who was paralysed from the high neck following a rugby accident whilst playing for Hammersmith & Fulham RFC in April 2008.  Stuart required 24-hour medical care for his every basic need and The Stuart Mangan Appeal was launched to fundraise, with patrons including Keith Wood, Ronan O’Gara and Jason Leonard.  Stuart sadly passed away in August 2009 having contracted pneumonia, but his family have chosen for the Legends game to raise necessary funds to support other injured players.

We are aiming to sell all 12,000 seats at the game so we need to maximise awareness of the event.  We would very much appreciate it if you would forward this email to all of your individual club members and supporters and to anyone who you think would be interested in attending the game.  Also, if you could include this information on your Rugby Club website and/or in your club’s newsletters, on notice boards and on your Twitter, Facebook and other social network accounts, it would be most appreciated.

Adult tickets £10, Concessions £5.

Click on the link below to purchase your tickets now and also please pass this on to any of your contacts who you think would be interested.  With the names involved it promises to be a cracker!

Details are also available at www.englandirelandlegends.co.uk, on Facebook https://www.facebook.com/events/253120864764718/ and Twitter https://twitter.com/ENGvIRELegends.

If you are unable to make it to the game you can make a donation to our three charities on our VirginGiving page at the following link:

https://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/englandirelandlegends

If you would like any further information, please don’t hesitate to contact me by email or on the numbers below.

We look forward to seeing you at the England Legends v Ireland Legends match and would very much appreciate your support for these very worthy rugby charities and for Stuart Mangan Memorial Cup.

Warm best wishes

Ann Higginson

The evening session that runs from 18:00 to 20:15, gives individuals the chance to cover all rugby aspects via skill stations which are delivered by some of Saracens high profile players and award winning coaches.

Players that are expected to attend are*; Brad Barritt, Steve Borthwick, Jacques Burger, Owen Farrell, Rhys Gill, Carlos Nieto, Kameli Ratuvou, Michael Tagicakibau, Richard Wigglesworth, Chris Wyles

Some of the experiences that young players have had when Saracens RFC are involved:

Rugby Camp:

Despite inclement weather, the rain did try and spoil the days activities, although judging by the smiling faces it didn’t succeed. Players were greeted by four Saracens coaches upon entry into the clubhouse, forms filled in, introductions made then straight out onto the playing fields. Players were split into different groups depending on age and experience and rotated around all of the coaches, each developing different skills whilst having great fun.

Today the players went through a number of drills, games and skill development:

Morning and afternoon sessions

Development through game play

Individual skills & techniques

Positive Continuity

Contact avoidance

Offloading

Speed, Agility and Quickness

Tackling / Tagging Techniques

Ball Presentation

It was definitely a full on session in the morning and the orange slices offered went down a storm (even though some said they didn’t do oranges!)

Lunch was eagerly taken by all, a great spread was laid on – Spaghetti/pasta bolognese  - french bread, hot tomato soup, salad – with carrot, cucumber pepper sticks, yogurts, assorted fruit, orange/blackcurrant squash.

After a briefing session led by the coaches it was back out again for the afternoon session. At the end of the day, coaches gathered all the players for a feedback question and answer session and presented the player of the day award.

What a great start to this Rugby Camp, really looking forward to tomorrow

A much better day on Friday – clear  blue skies and no hint of rain

On Friday, the coaches built upon a lot of the skills they had introduced the day before; concentrating on

Unit skills

Breakdown Management (Rucking, Leaching, and Ball presentation progressions)
Forwards / Backs Split

The coaches commented on how much more concentration the players had on Friday and noted that all had made excellent progress

The lunch of cheeseburgers was a hit, some even asking and getting seconds!

Of course, we celebrated the birthdays of Jameel and Sam in usual Pinner style; get it down you Zulu Warrior!!

The afternoon session had players developing more specific skills to their playing positions (older groups) whilst the Tag players whizzed around the field with Tag grabbing everywhere.

This was a great 2 day camp and hopefully Pinner RFC will host another Saracens Rugby Camp in the future

Sooopa Sarries Sunday – Pinner RFC beyond pitch-side!

After a disappointing weekend of International Rugby at the World Cup; apart of course the Welsh – llon.gyfarchion , ddeisyfwn ‘ch bydew i mewn ‘r semi finals it was up to Pinner Mini and Youth Sections to brighten up the day!

After a terrific morning of training and friendly matches with a friends from Hackney Bulls many of the players and parents jumped into their cars, put on their clean Pinner tops and headed off to Vicarage Road for the Aviva Premiership match against Newcastle Falcons

Through the Saracens club Partnership program we had secured a number of tickets which allowed children to go free and for reduced prices for adults.

Apart from watching live Premiership rugby, what else caused this exodus?

Well, a great day was install for the players; representing Pinner Youth, Mini Section and players from the Little Rugby Academy were guest of Saracens and formed the Guard of Honour for both the teams as they exploded onto the pitch, being that close up we saw what giants these rugby players were and how they were focused on the game in hand, even so, one player managed to get his hair ruffled by a passing Saracens player!

During the half time interval Pinner Under 7s and Under 8s were invited to play on the pitch, demonstrating their skills during a TAG rugby game, Pinner having the honour of being the only club to be represented and enjoyed every minute running around on the quality pitch, scoring tries and taking Tags. Coaches Andy Nash and Richard Evans were extremely proud of the display you put on, their beaming smiles being broadcasted on the big screen, cheered on by over 5,000 home supporters (including a few Pinner senior members doted around the ground)

What a great experience, a great day and one that will hopefully remain in the memory of all the young players who attended.

Saracens won, by the way!

Here’s (a lot) of photographs from the day, enjoy

Oh by the way, I was interviewed by ESPN/Sky Sports News before the game, if anyone has seen it or recorded game firstly, did I look fat on the telly! and secondly, is there a copy of it I can have a butchers at? (cheers Spud)

A big thank you to Steve and Richard at Saracens and a special thank you to Jo Talbot for organising everything today

When ‘Sarrie’ met Pinner Mini and Youth Sections

Sunday 25th September saw the Aviva Trophy make its second appearance around Pinner Players within a week. To protect and also to greet was the Saracens RFC mascot ‘Sarrie’ who proved to be a popular ‘extra’ during the training session!

Pinner RFC shine @Pinner Show with Saracens RFC and Aviva Trophy

First time out at Pinner Show – a great success

Pinner Rugby Club, with Club Partners Saracens RFC, took part in the Pinner Village Show organised by the Rotary Club of Pinner, for the first time this weekend.

The Village Show was, once again a great success – fun for all the families who ventured into the park. It contained many local charity and craft stalls, entertainments and of course Pinner Rugby Club.

Local residents and visitors from further afield came in good numbers throughout the day, despite the intermittent rain showers. The Kiddies Fun Fair, the miniature steam train and the many local charity stalls were in attendance at the Rotary Club of Pinner’s Pinner Village Show. The Merry-Downers Morris Dancers, the Harrow Concert Band and the Tug of War events kept the crowds well and truly entertained

Many Pinner Rugby Club members braved mixed weather to raise awareness of our club and hopefully gained some new players.

The day didn’t get off to a great start when Minis Chairman Spud had great difficulties putting up the club tent (a new club gazebo is on the way thankfully!) failing to recognise that you can’t put it up inside out! After a succession of Rotary Club members tried to aid the suffering Spud, former Mini’s Chairman Steve George was called into action and promptly alleviated a minor disaster.

At 10.15 the Aviva Trophy arrived on our stand along with Saracens young star Geoffrey Sella (son of French international Phillipe Sella) ready to meet and greet the local community and have their photograph taken with both Geoffrey and the trophy. As you can see, Pinner members were very keen to get their hands on the trophy and Geoffrey was fantastic throughout the day, signing autographs, showing off his skills and playing demonstration rugby – as he is currently injured this had to be limited although witnesses said that he was awesome despite a light slip resulting in getting covered in mud – a few eagle eyed passer byes saw him take his top off and remarked that suddenly they liked rugby (you can follow Geoffrey on twitter – @geof_sella)

Throughout the day, players from all levels of the club came down to support our publicity drive, seniors from the first team, club captain Reza Sibilant got his hands on the trophy with a beaming smile; the youth under 15s were out in force along with manager Brad Seiler, under 7s & 8s coach Andy Nash, a Saracens fan, also got ‘up and close’ with the silverware. Players from all squads were in presence and worked tirelessly in promoting our club; as a result many new faces were seen at training during Sunday morning, great work.

Then for something different: Pinner entered the tug of war competition; firstly testing themselves against each other then taking on all-comers, including the Morris Dancers. All succumbed to the brilliant effort by Pinner – out-right winners, well done.

The day proved to be a great success, many made their way to the club to watch some fantastic rugby in the form of the 1st XV versus Old Merchant Taylors and the Pelicans first outing of the new season versus Uxbridge 2nds (match reports and photographs on website)

Pinner Rugby Club is a club Partner of Saracens RFC and this has allowed us to bring them down to the club next Sunday 25th September for a morning of ‘Super Sarries Sunday’; where they will be once again bringing the Aviva Trophy, players, coaches and ‘Sarrie’ the mascot. It will be a fantastic opportunity to have your photograph taken with the above and be part of the Saracens Pixel wall. All welcome and please bring down your friends. The under 15s will also be playing a pre league friendly match versus Fullarians RFC (also a Saracens Club Partner).

The raffle proved to be a great success, a big thank you to Saracens again for supplying the first prize. The draw was made after training on Sunday – the winners were:

3rd Prize: a rugby ball – Les Chaffe

2nd Prize: Signed rugby ball by Austin Healey – Monty Meghjee

1st Prize: 10 match tickets for Saracens home fixture at Wembley – Max Alexander

Congratulations to them, contact will be made within the next couple of days an the first prize will be presented during ‘Super Sarries Sunday’

Pinner Rugby Club along with club partner Saracens RFC provided a unique experience at the rugby club this Sunday. With the training pitches filled with players from all age groups and a pre league friendly Under 15s fixture against Fullarians RFC a morning named ‘Super Sarries Sunday’ kicked off. Placed just outside of the Pinner clubhouse entrance was the Aviva Trophy sparkling in the sunshine, players and parents were greeted by Saracens mascot ‘Sarrie’ as they prepared for a morning of rugby.

Club President David Hiles with the Aviva Trophy (he’s the one on the left!)

It was be a fantastic opportunity to have their photograph taken with the trophy and of course Sarrie, all squads took it in turns through the morning and after training finished many of the player of the week winners muscled up to Sarrie for a memorable photo opportunity.

Pinner RFC had run a prize draw raffle during the Pinner Show the previous Saturday; the draw was made on Sunday 18th September and the winners were presented with their prizes by Pinner RFC chairman Andy Wright and Pinner RFC Mini Section Chairman Paul ‘Spud’ Talbot. A big thank you to Saracens for supplying the first prize:

1st Prize: 10 match tickets for Saracens home fixture at Wembley – Max Alexander

1st Prize: 10 Tickets to a Saracens RFC Home Match @ Wembley Stadium
