It was cold January afternoon and the mighty Pinner were away at Northolt. There were some new faces in the Pinner ranks and some players trailing new positions.
In the first 20 minutes, Pinner was well on top. However, despite getting over the try line twice, we didn’t manage to get the ball on the ground with Owen knocking the ball on first, then Bow driving his man halfway into the goal area before having it stripped from him and finally ending in the two players in a ruckus seeing them both sent to the bin for 10 minutes. Pinner did manage to take the lead with a try that came with both sides still down to 14 men, Pinner’s forwards managed to heavily commit Northolt into the breakdowns and when the ball came out to the backs, the gaps opened up allowing Dan M, the Skipper, to speed through over the whitewash for his long awaited debut try of the season. A second try was then scored after good running and quick hands from Niall offloading the ball to Dan S to run in the second try.
Into the second half Northolt upped their game and managed to run in two tries in the wide areas both unconverted leaving the scores at 12-10. Pinner then started getting the upper hand playing at tempo which lead to Dave charging over the line, only to have the referee very controversially disallow the try for not seeing if the was over the line. However, in that exchange, Pinner were awarded a penalty that led to Northolt’s second yellow of the day. From that quick tap and go penalty Pinner moved the ball well and took advantage of the extra man allowing Charlie to smash is way through the Northolt defence grounding the ball right in the corner.
With Pinner 7 points clear, Northolt were on the charge and with the very last play the ball was kicked over Pinner’s try line, but was touched down first by the Pinner fall back before the Northolt player could get his hand on the ball. This ended the game with Pinner victorious with the score of 10 – 17.
