Also a quick word of thanks from Harrow RFC:
Hi Jo,
We All had a great time and the help we received for Matt was fantastic from both Pinners coaches and parents so thank you.
I can’t give the full details of what happen as I wasn’t present , Steve your mini’s chair knew more about it then I,.
The details you asked for as follows, hope it helps.
Full name: Matt Mcevoy U9’s coach, apparently it was just a friendly match with the parents Matt tried to block and all I was told you heard the snap and I think it was your Steve who put Matt in the recovery position .I spoke again with Mary (Wife) who also asked to pass on her thanks, he has broken two bones in his leg and will either need plates or pins he is in theatre today. He will need to be on crutches for at least six weeks, knowing Matt he will be back on track sooner than that.
I ‘m sorry can’t be more help but I only got involved when I realised it looked bad and as I had a nurse beside me as well as 5 first aiders around me, and knew our doctor as well as our health and safety rep was on site, I for my sins intervened, glad in the end to help as Matt is a great bloke does a lot for the club as well as his Gaelic football coaching.
Thank you and Spud again, well lets say for a proper Rugby day J.Our motto is, if there is not at least one injury on the day you obviously didn’t play Rugby !!
Hope to meet up in the summer for some training.
Regards
Susan

PLAY ON CAMPAIGN – RECRUITING & RETAINING PLAYERS WITHIN THE ADULT GAME
THE PATHFINDER NETWORK
Dear Colleague
Following the great success of the Go Play campaign which saw some 9000 players recruited back into the adult game in England, Play On seeks to continue the good work by assisting clubs in their efforts to retain those new players and also to continue to recruit more. The Middlesex County RFU has been successful in securing funding from the RFU to run the Play On campaign and every club has the opportunity to take advantage of the resources that are available.
One of the key areas that the Play On campaign concentrates on is the creation of a network of volunteers called PATHFINDERS.
Pathfinders are volunteers at schools, colleges, universities and clubs whose role is to assist players in finding a place to play the game as they move through their rugby journeys, for example when a player moves from university to work, or from one part of the country to another, reducing the number of players that are currently lost to the game when such moves occur.
Having a network of Pathfinders will ensure that players enjoy a smoother transition from club to club and it will also ensure that clubs are able to easily recruit these players.
We are doing quite well in the recruitment of Pathfinders so far, but we can do much better and we need many more Middlesex clubs to get on board and nominate their own Pathfinder so that we can all take full advantage of the network in increasing the numbers of players that we have. Ideally, EVERY Middlesex club should have a Pathfinder – the role is neither onerous nor particularly time consuming, and as the network is being set up as a permanent recruitment tool by the RFU, clubs really will benefit in the long term by having a Pathfinder registered at the RFU, as Pathfinders will receive details of all players coming into their area that have been collected through the RFU’s various ongoing grass-roots rugby recruitment campaigns. This is of course in addition to introductions that will be made by other Pathfinders around the country as players move from one place to another. The Middlesex County RFU views the Pathfinder network as being a very important element of the ongoing work to keep adult rugby alive and kicking throughout the County. Accordingly, we have arranged a workshop evening where you can send the person that you have identified to be your club’s Pathfinder along to meet other Pathfinders who have already been registered, find out what is happening with the Pathfinder network in general and to register as your club’s Pathfinder.
The workshop will be held at the East India Club, 16 St James’s Square, London, SW1Y 4LH on Thursday 2nd April 2009 at 7.00 p.m. Of course, to thank your volunteer for taking the time to attend, there will be a complimentary bite to eat and a pint or two on offer afterwards.
In order that we can establish numbers of attendees, please can you fill in your Pathfinder’s details at the bottom of this letter and then either e-mail this letter to cb-honsec-middx@therfu.comor you can fax this letter back to the County Office – the fax number is 020 8896 9264, or you can post the letter to the County office – the address is MCRFU, PK1, Twyford Avenue Sports Ground, Twyford Avenue, Acton, London, W3 9QA.
On the same evening, also at 7.00 p.m. there will be two other workshops running, one for Volunteer Co-ordinators and one for Coach Co-ordinators. You will be receiving separate communications about these workshops very soon so you may wish to let your chosen delegates for each of the workshops know who is attending so that they can perhaps arrange to travel to The East India Club together or at least arrange to meet each other afterwards for some food and a drink or two with us after the workshops.
Please note that the East India Club has a strict dress code of jacket/blazer and tie – Strictly no jeans or trainers.
I very much look forward to meeting your club’s chosen delegate for the Pathfinder workshop and also to registering them onto the network so that your club can start to take advantage of the network straight away.
Should you require any additional information, please don’t hesitate to get in touch with me, and don’t forget to complete the details in the box below and send them back to the County Office.
Yours in rugby

Message from Brad
This Sunday sees us at home to Grasshoppers so can we please aim for a really good turn out as they are a great club. Hackney are bringing their Under 11s to continue the Big Hope Barbarians training regime so this will be an excellent test! They will, in fact, also bring their Under 10s so that should help our numbers too.
UNDER 11S ONLY:
Please put in your calendar the following 2 new fixtures, both pertaining to the Barbarian squad; March 15th we are away at Hackney for a training session. March 22nd- we are away at Romford for a match. And you thought you were going to have it easy…..!
2nd February
This message has been sent to me from David Hiles, Club President:
It is imperative that I get to speak to the Mini’s parent who
volunteered to do surveys and draw up plans for the extension.
We can’t move forward to look for grants until we have actual plans,
costings etc and if there is someone who will do this for free it will
make life easier. If we have to engage architects etc that will be an
extra expense.

The Marie Curie Cancer Care Middlesex County Rugby Festivals
March 2009

For the third year running Marie Curie Cancer Careis proud to be the official charity for the Middlesex County Rugby Festivals. All clubs can compete for the Marie Curie Cancer Care Cup which will be awarded to the club who raise the most amount of money for the charity.
The cup is currently held by Ealing rugby club, who are determined to keep it, so it’s all out competition for the title this year
We need each club to nominate someone to represent them and lead the way with their club’s fundraising. The representatives can then meet up with me, a fundraiser, and a Marie Curie Nurse and have a chat about ideas for how to; make the best of this opportunity, inspire the players and their families, and support Marie Curie Cancer Care in Middlesex. To help with your fundraising we can provide accurate nursing figures for your local area, so when you pass on the name of your representative to me, then also please let me know which borough you are based in, and I can look up the information for you.
All money raised will be spent on providing unique high quality nursing, in the homes of terminally ill people in the Middlesex area. All our care is free for patients and their carers, and gives people the choice to die at home supported by their loved ones.
Last year in Greater London Marie Curie Cancer Care cared for 1,696 patients, and we are hoping to care for more than 2,000 this year. Your support in this competition can help make this a reality.
“Being able to have John at home provided a sense of normality in an otherwise abnormal and distressing situation.
Our children, who were only nine and eight at the time, could come and see their dad for short periods of time at regular intervals every day. John was much more secure and orientated in his own surroundings and I could sleep when he did rather than sit in a chair by a hospital bed.
The difference Marie Curie Cancer Care made to our life as a family in these final days of John’s life was immense.”
Marie Curie nurses cared for 18,000 terminally ill people in the own homes in 2008.
Our nurses are also there for families and carers – providing practical and emotional support at what can be an exhausting time. Marie Curie Nursing is always free of charge to patients and carers.
By 2013 we are hoping to double the number of people we care for at home and double the number of nursing hours we provide to 2 million.
We need your help to make this a reality.

Hi all budding reporters (yes parents I mean you!!) You may have noticed that there has been some match reports and training reports posted on the website. Well here’s your chance….. we are looking for a parent from each age group to note a couple of things that happen when your children are playing/training
1. What they did – training techniques etc
2. If they played a game who scored etc
3. Any quotes from the coaches / children
Just a few notes scrawled on a piece of paper would be great. If you could pass it onto me or spud at the end of the session so it can be uploaded onto the site that would be marvellous
It doesn’t have to be the same person each week (panic over!!!)
Reporters hats , pencils, notepad and spell checks avaialble!
See me for details on Sunday
Thanks

We have been given £500 as part of a grant to put towards advertising and PR for the club.
Any ideas?
We need to build up all our sides especially U7s, U10s and U11s. We have a full team of U12s but need 20+ kids to be able to enter youth activities next year.
Please let me know what you think or publications you feel would be suitable to advertise in or activities we could do etc.

Hi Members of P & G
I know that lots of you parents out there are enjoying belonging to our club and may want to get more involved. We are going to apply for the RFU Seal of Approval – a huge folder of evidence that will raise the profile of our club and put us in the running for grants and council money to expand and improve.
3 key elements of this is to send members on the 3 courses listed below. If you feel you may be interested in getting more involved and committing to these courses please let me know ASAP so I can talk with you and get booked on these highly subscribed courses.
Thanks Jo
These courses are not available all year round, so you need to act now to achieve sign-off this season.
