Playing for Pinner some of the reasons why
Playing rugby for Pinner Rugby Club has taken on a new dimension in the last couple of years. The club has gone strength to strength with the Seniors First XV winning two promotions in the last two years, currently sitting fourth in the Herts/Middlesex Div2 League. The introduction of the Pelicans this season has brought competition for places, brought back players from the past and a lot of new members wanting to play for Pinner. Vets have regularly played in fixtures with local clubs enjoying great games and a couple of victories.
The youth section is developing and the Under 14’s have increased their squad this season; again making places in the team no certainty. Next season sees the introduction of an Under 13’s squad and will be looking to increase numbers.
The mini section continues to grow and develop and recent performances at the Middlesex County Festivals is testimony to this. The Under 8’s were winners, The Under 11’s beat Rosslyn Park to become champions, the under 9’s and 10’s were losing finalists, it’s all looking good for next season.
We have a full and active social life at the club combining whole club social events; parties, BBQ’s our own Summer Olympics, international evenings and squad trips to theme parks and other fun destinations including rugby tours, of course the seniors do indulge in a little alcoholic beverages at times!
Here’s another simple reason:
We met on Sunday I’m the Minis Chair of Rosslyn Park and my son plays in our U11 team who played against your boys as hooker on at the County Festival.
I wish to say congratulations to your team and the great spirit with which they played in the fantastic and nerve racking last match of the league. Though sad to see our boys lose I thought it was fantastic to see the smiles and joy of your players on the final whistle – they were deserved winners. I must also compliment your players, coaches, parents for being very gracious in victory. I was also very impressed to see the all your players taking the time to shake the hands and thank opposite tem players, officials and coaches – you should feel very proud of them they were great ambassadors for your club and the sport.
Best regards
Graham Robson

Clothes and Textiles Collection We need your Support for the Minis Tour
This is our first attempt at a fund raising event for the Mini’s Tour to Bognor, we need your support.
We are collecting old clothes and textiles, the idea is that we all collect bags of old clothes and textiles from our own homes, family and friends. Bring them into the rugby club over the next few weeks so we can amass a good weight in textiles, for which a Ragman will come and collect them and give us a nice cheque to go into the Tour account.
We also have some leaflets that will be available at the club on Sunday, with these you will need to fill in the gap with a collection date, then deliver them to houses in your local area, on the date that you have said you will collect the donations, just walk around the houses where you delivered your leaflets and collect the bags, you may need your car as the donations do mount up, remember there is no need to knock on doors as donations will be left out for you to collect.
Please show your support for the mini’s section, by giving an hour to deliver and collect, you could help the tour fund, please help with this collection even if you are unable to attend the tour we will all be very grateful.
See you all on Sunday it’s a home game. Paul PB.
Players and Parents will be collecting your donations.
Please leave bags outside with this leaflet attached.

Pinner RFC mini’s tour to Bognor April 2011. (update)
Wednesday 1st December 2010
Hello everyone, thank you for your support in joining the 1st Mini’s tour of Pinner RFC. I am really looking forward to it and I hope you are as well. It is however time to collect the second payment now, what I would require is another £20 per head, this should be paid to myself by
Sunday 5th December please. Cheque or cash is ok, cheques payable to Paul Parker-Brice.
I will be collecting the remaining monies over dates during January and February, this all to ease the burden of paying for the tour during the up and coming expense of Christmas season, hope it suits.
I am also looking to do some fund raising in December it will take the form of a rag collection, this will involve leaflets being delivered to houses in your areas then at a later date returning to collect donations, l have the contact for a company who will come to the club and collect the rags and hopefully leave us a nice size cheque to go towards the tour in some way so please keep hold of your old clothes ask friends and others to hold onto it for us as well. Also if anyone has any prizes that could go towards raffles, which we could run over the season to raise funds, please let me know.
Thank you,
Paul Parker-Brice.

Pinner Mini Section: Sunday 17th October. Visitors; Kilburn Cosmos and Staines
On a bright yet crisp October morning the playing fields of Pinner & Grammarians was awash with a multitude of players, representatives from Kilburn Cosmos RFC and Staines RFC had travelled to the friendly fixtures with the hosts Pinner & Grammarians. There was a real buzz about the air and even though both the main pitches were out of use; one nearing completion from the extensive drainage work, and the other, being used to play the league fixture; Pinner youth Under 14’s versus Bedford Under 14’s. So space was going to be tight and some quick movement of cones and kit allowed enough full size pitches for every age group. It was great to see so many people tucking into their bacon rolls, cups of tea, dog walking and more importantly a vast number of young players keen to do their best for their club. With warm ups quickly dispatched, coaches were keen to get into match mode (particularly Staines who saw this friendly fixture as a way to get match practice in before they had an ‘important’ fixture the following week!) well if they thought they could just turn up and expect to win, they were in for a surprise. Kilburn, on the other hand, play in the same manner that Pinner do, fun, enjoyment, learn new skills and apply them to a game situation where emphasis is on playing as a team not with a must win mentality.
From what I heard from around the pitches there were some very good games being witnessed, the under 12’s put everything into their game, also, playing the first time as a baba team (Pinner are supplying players to Kilburn to help them out in the forthcoming Grasshoppers Festival) showed great team play, supported each other and scored some magnificent tries. The under 11’s also held their own and proved a difficult team to beat, pushing Staines throughout the games and win more than they lost.
At the time of writing I am still waiting for full match reports from coaches/parents.
It was also nice to see our RFU link coach Martin pacing up and down the touchlines of all the games and said that he intends coming over at least three more times before Christmas to run training sessions for initially the younger ages. He left the club very impressed with what he had seen and the enthusiasm of all the players. Also, if you looked around the pitches you might have seen members of the first team who were enjoying the weekend without a league fixture keen to help out.
There will be additions to this shortly, in the mean time there are some photos posted (protected)

Pinner plan to be pitch perfect with RFU investment
The resurgence of north London club Pinner & Grammarians has been recognised by the RFU which is providing the bulk of the £46,500 funding for an extensive drainage scheme on the London Borough of Harrow-owned Shaftesbury Playing Fields in Hatch End.
The lower pitch is notorious for becoming waterlogged and unplayable for long periods in the winter months and has been increasingly frustrating for the Club as it develops its Mini and Youth rugby sections and expands the number of teams at adult level.
- Local borough grant matched by Rugby Football Foundation
- RFU funding utilises Sport England funds for grassroots rugby
Negotiations began over a year ago firstly between the Club and the RFU following an introduction by the Middlesex County RFU Chairman, Michael Barnes, a former Pinner captain and chairman.
A report from consultant agronomist, John Hacker of PSD Preston, indicated that a very comprehensive new drainage scheme was required. The RFU contribution utilised funds from Sport England for improvements to grassroots facilities and the club applied to the Rugby Football Foundation Ground match grant scheme which was matched by the Borough’s contribution of £6000.
Drainage system to be maintained
Certain safeguards required by the RFU included security of tenure for P&G’s and an agreement to ensure that the drainage system is maintained.
Work carried out by Agripower Ltd of Great Missenden was completed in June this year. Thirty 10cm drains have been cut at 3m intervals across the lower pitch. A laser controlled machine cuts a half-metre deep trench and lays the continuous porous pipe at the same time. The trench is then filled with gravel and sand.
The 10cm drains feed into a much larger one that is connected to the existing system, which has been cleared to ensure free flow. The whole area has been treated for weeds and the pitch will be re-seeded. Top up work, if needed, will take place prior to the start of the new season.
Pinner and Grammarians president David Hiles said: “This commitment and financial support by the RFU is a feather in the cap of the club and indicates confidence in our future development.
To have two fully functional pitches will help us to expand. The slight inconvenience to Hatch End CC, caused by the delays, will be outweighed by having a better outfield in future seasons.
“We are extremely grateful for the help and expertise shown by Rick Bruin, RFU Facilities and Funding Manager, and for the support given by Cllr Susan Hall, portfolio holder for Leisure Services, in driving this through.”

Calling all players!
Pinner RFC, after a very successful promotion for the second year running to the Herts/Middlesex league, invite players to join their Senior Playing Squad. We have in place a quality coaching team and experts in fitness and conditioning which will improve you as a player. The 1st XV is now challenging in the Herts / Middlesex Div 2. Awards Dinner-P&G’s celebrate another successful season
Pinner celebrated a second successful season at the annual end of season Awards Dinner attended by nearly 50 players, members, vice-presidents and friends in their clubhouse on Shaftesbury Playing Fields, Hatch End on Friday evening. Following on from the previous Saturday’s Players Reunion Lunch it was the second time in a week that the pavilion was filled by people enjoying a splendid social atmosphere.
The Club President David Hiles paid tribute to all who had put in so much effort over the season to maintain the momentum of the 1st XV’s promotion, the new youth U13 team and the Mini rugby section. In particular he gave warm praise to Club Captain Reza Sibilant for his leadership on and off the field. He welcomed Mel Williams, a vice-president who had captained the club in the 1960’s before moving on to Saracens where he became captain of the club and Hertfordshire and later President. A standing ovation greeted the news that Mel had recently been inducted into the Saracen’s Hall of Fame joining the famous international players Michael Lynah and Philipe Sella.
David Hiles also announced that, following a meeting that he had with the RFU consultant, the contractors and representatives of the LB of Harrow the day before, work would commence on 20th April on the £46.000 comprehensive drainage project for the lower pitch. This project is to be funded by the RFU with a substantial contribution from the LB of Harrow who are the pitch owners.
The majority of end of season awards are voted on by the players themselves. The Captain and President presented engraved pint tankard to:
Players of the Season: Martin Goodwin and Warren Woad who received equal votes
Most Improved Player: James Byrne
Best Newcomer: Lee Seiler who also coaches the U13 team
Best Overseas Player: Craig Lane
Club Colour Ties were presented to physio Lindsey Browne and to Bernie Richter and Martin Goodwin for consistently high standard of play over several seasons.
The Captain’s Shield, awarded annually to the club member who has given outstanding support to the captain and his team, was presented by Reza Sibilant to Paul Talbot who not only coaches one of the Mini’s squads but supports and photographs the 1st XV and maintains the Club’s highly regarded website www.pinnerrugby.com .
On the previous Saturday the JPR Williams Shield for Endeavour had been presented to Paul’s wife Jo for her many roles with the Mini section and for her work in moving the whole club to it Club Marque status.
In closing the formal part of the evening Dave Hiles said that he looked forward to the seniors running a 2nd XV next season, the Youth section moving on to both U14 and U13 teams and the Mini’s continuing to grow. With the whole club approach the Club was definitely upbeat about its future.
